Work

Using a quadrat, a metal frame of a set size.

Sample Randomly within chosen area e.g. field. Use of computer generated random number, to move in the field to set points.
Drop Quadrat, estimate the percentage cover of a plant species.
Repeat the above steps for a number of samples (e.g. 10) (note: the higher the number of samples the more accurate your final estimate.
Calculatethe average percentage cover for the plant species in the area, e.g. field.

You can only use a quadrat to estimate the distribution of small visible stationary organisms, mainly plants.
